Overview Expand

The Ballymore Group’s ambitious Embassy Gardens development is the centrepiece of the Nine Elms Regeneration Areas. Located on the Southbank, Embassy Gardens comprises thousands of luxury homes, workspaces and amenities. The construction of both the US and Dutch Embassy buildings help to position the development as a true geopolitical district.

Designed by Reddy Architecture, the development includes four residential towers sitting on a two-storey podium, which houses the commercial and retail areas. The podium also houses social spaces for residents with gardens and seating areas. Amenities of the highest standard include the private Eg:le club with its own library and gym, the world-famous Sky Pool, as well as a spa, cinema and business facilities.

Our scope of works involved the external façade packages for six buildings within Phase One of the project, including the three-storey Link Accommodation Bridge. Connecting tower Blocks A and B above level eight, this key architectural feature represented a specific design challenge.

With both blocks constructed of concrete and connected by a steel bridge, our in house design team had to ensure accurate and precise calculations due to the span length and loadings.

In addition, the team had to construct a camber within the steel bridge to compensate for dead load deflections. The bridge has been completed and residents are now living within the bridge’s accommodation.

Due to provide social housing, Block D also presented a challenge in relation to a critical handover date, the so-called Golden Brick Date.

With effective collaboration from the full project team and our experience at managing complex projects within restricted timescales – the deadline was successfully met and the funding did continue.

Work on site is now complete and the Embassy Gardens development should be fully open by 2019.
