Developed by Oak View Group, this state-of-the-art £365 million arena underscores Manchester's ambition to become a global leader in cultural and entertainment experiences. Hosting events ranging from world-renowned music acts to MMA competitions, the arena offers a unique experience while driving urban regeneration, economic growth, and job creation for the local community.
Designed by Populous, Co-op Live adopts a 'music-first' approach, prioritising innovative acoustics and a user-centred and experience design. The seating bowl is crafted to enhance intimacy and energy, bringing spectators closer to the stage than any other comparable venue in Europe.
BAM was appointed as the main contractor of this flagship project and we were duly appointed through an initial PCSA to deliver comprehensive design and operational solutions. The project included the design and in-house manufacturing of 10,000 sqm of acoustic roof cassettes fabricated at our Thurrock facility, along with the surrounding roofing and cladding to complete the full building envelope.
We worked closely with the BEMO team to produce and install the roof sheets, up to 48 meters long, directly on-site. This reduced transport requirements, accelerated production—over 10,500 square meters in under six days—and eliminated end laps, ensuring a seamless, weatherproof finish.
Despite the challenges of scale, logistics, and detail, we maintained rigorous quality controls and delivered a full envelope solution that seamlessly integrates with Co-op’s vision, standing as a global exemplar in cutting edge performance spaces. The specialist knowledge that is required to ensure that the quality and workmanship required to deliver a project of this complexity is one that we, as many visitors will enjoy for years to come.
