We are thrilled to have been awarded Project of the Year by a Specialist Contractor (subcontract over £5m) at the Construction News Specialists Awards 2019 for its work on London Bridge Station.
Lindner Prater provided a large scope of works as part of the extensive redevelopment of London Bridge Station. Appointed by Costain, Lindner Prater installed the pre-cast concrete platforms, and designed, supplied and installed roof canopies – consisting of aluminium clad with aluminium standing seam roofing. This also included a bespoke structural glazing package.
Nick Brautigam, Project Director at Lindner Prater explained, “London Bridge provides a prestigious example of how offsite manufacturing can ensure the success of a project, and we’re very proud to have won this award after all the hard work from the Lindner Prater team and its supply chain partners. The project faced a common challenge often associated with developments in large cities – a lack of space onsite. This combined with it being the fourth busiest station in the UK meant that speed of work onsite was essential.
“Due to this and the vast scope of works being delivered, early engagement between Network Rail, Grimshaw, Costain and Severfield was a priority to ensure a strict phased timescale could be adhered to and minimal impact was made to the day to day running of the station.”
During the early stages of the development, a decision was made to build a full-scale constructability prototype in North Yorkshire. This prototype was then dismantled and rebuilt in order to challenge the buildability in line with the project constraints, which enhanced the quality of the build and the confidence in all parties across the chain.
This pioneering decision allowed all parties to experience the performance of the end solution whilst maintaining accuracy against the 3D model provided by Grimshaw within the timescale for installation.

The project also achieved the Costain Blue Standard, a set of performance statistics that envelope Lindner Prater’s performance on London Bridge Station across a range of activities.
